Oh yes, it’s that time of year.
When everyone hits the gym/yoga/cross fit HARD until February 1. I’m guilty of it too. I just rejoined a gym after a year away. Part of the reason I didn’t join one sooner was financial. I couldn’t quite budget for it yet, but now that’s all behind me and there’s a gym in my future. And by future, I had hoped for lunch time today. I was so hopeful that I packed my gym bag neatly, picked out my favorite running shoes, threw in my headphones and promptly left the house without my gym bag. I guess my #transformationtuesday is on hold [really, though, I’m SO bummed].
Luckily, I have tomorrow. And tomorrow, lunch time will be spent at the gym.
For my Orlando area friends, I wanted to share some of my favorite ways to get a great workout inside or outside of the gym. To me, a workout = movement. Moving is so important to your health. I can’t stress it enough. Do I expect you at cross fit 3 time a week? No. But I do expect you to get at least 10,000 steps per day [my daily FitBit goal].
Lots of my friends/family are in my FitBit family which is super motivating when I’ve been sitting for 8 hours and need to get moving.
Fun Fact: Physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality. Globally, 6% of deaths are attributed to physical inactivity. This follows high blood pressure (13%), tobacco use (9%) and is equal to high blood glucose (6%). Read More.
Time to get moving!
Yoga in the Park:
I don’t think there’s anything better than Yoga outside other than free yoga. Yoga is the park is a gathering of novice and expert yoginis. The practice returns to the park on 1/18 and January is the perfect month for it. Once we move into the summer months it’s more like Hot Yoga in the Park and I’m okay with that. More information here.
Orlando Fit Club:
This local Meet Up group offers weekly Insanity work outs. If you’ve never tried Insanity, it’s literally insane and worth checking out. Plus, you can’t beat free group fitness. I find it much easier to push myself when I’m surrounded by others. More information here.
I realize that Lake Eola is Orlando’s crown jewel but I much prefer Lake Underhill. One loop around the lake is 1.25 miles and the course provides equipment to workout on along the way: pull ups, push ups and balance beams. As a bonus, the path is well populated and lit so you’ll never feel alone on your run.
This one doesn’t fit into my free theme but it’s still a viable option and there are gyms a plenty in every neighborhood. If you’re looking to join one, January is the best month to do so. The gym I joined waived my enrollment fee which is a great savings to get you started. I chose to join a gym close to my office because, as you all know, I wanted to utilize my lunch hour rather than worrying about fitting in a workout after work. I’m dead to the world by the time I get home at 6pm.
Sadly, I DO have to worry about what workout I’ll be doing when I get home today because I forgot my gym bag [insert sad, crying emoji here].
