A few weeks ago Class Pass reached out to me and offered me a free month pass to check out their new classes in Orlando.
I happily accepted because anything free is awesome.
I decided that I wanted to take a class at The Bar Method in Winter Park and signed up using the Class Pass app. The app lists classes by studio and by day/time. It also makes it easy to cancel, in case something comes up or you change your mind.
When I arrived at the studio on Saturday morning it was PACKED! I got there 15 minutes before my class hoping to get acquainted quietly. People were literally everywhere. I was warmly greeted by the front desk staff and got signed in. Apparently they were anticipating my arrival (perks of being the new girl). I was given a quick tour of the facility and shown a locker where I could put my things.
The studio had two rooms, plenty of locker space, 2 bathrooms and a shower. Not to mention it was absolutely stunning. Clean, white decor, marble tiles, flowers, a water station – it was very spa like.
I made my way into the room where my Mixed Level class was being held and took a seat. If you’re going to take a Bar Method class there are apparel requirements:
- Pants that fall past the knees
- Tops that cover your midriff
Luckily I checked out the website prior to my class and managed to wear the right things. The instructor was super friendly and introduced herself to me prior to class starting. She corrected my position throughout class, which was helpful since this was my first time taking a Bar Method class.
The part that I didn’t like was that the instructor literally called me out the entire class. I’m not joking when I say she said my name 10+ times. At first I didn’t mind so much but towards the end of class it was irritating. I don’t mind being corrected, I actually appreciate it, but I felt that her calling out my name each time was a little much. I know that if I was the kind of person who was easily made uncomfortable, it would have been enough to make me not want to go back.
But I will go back.
Aside from being Teacher’s Pet, the workout was AWESOME! The hour flew by and I felt amazing afterwards. In case you aren’t familiar, The Bar Method is a non-impact total body workout that incorporates free weights, body weight exercises, isometric movements and abdominal work. The goal is to use active stretching to elongate the targeted muscles.
On my way out of the studio I was handed a little gift bag with a mini shower gel, chocolate and a class schedule. The next morning I had the kind of soreness that felt good. A few days later the studio left me a voicemail inquiring about my experience, which was a really nice touch.
A big THANK YOU to Class Pass for giving me the opportunity to check out The Bar Method. I’m looking forward to trying another new class this weekend.
I’m sharing as part of Fitness Friday with Jill:
Have you ever tried The Bar Method? Have you ever had an instructor pick on you during a group class?
