When I lived in Seattle, my wedding photographer flew to town and we decided to meet up for dinner and discuss details for my upcoming wedding. She tasked me with picking the restaurant so I went with one that was known for it’s roasted broccoli.
When I told June that my selection was based on rumors of one fabulous broccoli dish she laughed, she didn’t quite share my enthusiasm. The broccoli totally delivered. It was broiled with sea salt and olive oil and had a slight char. We ended up sharing a big plate of broccoli that night and June swears it was the most delicious broccoli she’s ever eaten.
Truthfully, broccoli is one of my favorite foods. I could eat it with every meal. My preference is steamed broccoli with a pinch of Trader Joe’s 21 seasoning salute. It’s plain and simple but I love it.
Broccoli is an under rated superfood. It contains a fair amount of protein and lots of vitamins and minerals, including Vitamins A, C, E and K. Broccoli is part of the brassica family and is rich in glucosinolates which are key in reducing inflammation, detoxification and healthy liver function. Glucosinolates may help prevent cancer by helping to remove potential carcinogens from the body and increasing your body’s defense against cancer with tumor suppressor proteins.
