A fun and festive alcohol free cranberry and orange mocktail! Perfect for the holidays!
The holidays are all about spending time with family, eating and usually, drinking. Holiday parties and gatherings can be challenging if you’re not a drinker or if you’re just taking a break from alcohol.
The older I get, the less I enjoy drinking. In my early 20’s it was a fun activity that was usually shared with friends. It involved dancing, going to bars, meeting new people. Alcohol went with the atmosphere. I’ve naturally outgrown those habits and now I gravitate towards a good glass of wine or bubbly.
Aside from putting the habits of my early 20’s to rest, I’ve also noticed that as I get older, alcohol has started to affect my body differently. It leaves me feeling fatigued and restless. I often feel guilty if I have a 2nd or 3rd glass of wine, plus there’s the unwanted side effects:
- Disrupted sleep
- Unnecessary caloric consumption
- Staying up later than necessary
- Aging my skin
- And the worst: the dreaded hangover
This holiday season I’m going to exercise moderation and mindfulness. I want to be aware of others who aren’t drinking (like my pregnant girlfriends) and I want to stick to my personal goal of maintaining my weight and health through the holidays. To make the holidays a little more fun, I’ve started experimenting with mocktails. A mocktail is a fancy drink that looks like a cocktail but doesn’t contain any alcohol.
Just because you aren’t “drinking” doesn’t mean you can’t have a fun drink. I blended two of my favorite thanksgiving flavors: cranberry and orange. Plus I added one of my favorite fizzy beverages, La Croix! It’s fun and festive and pretty, all of which makes this the perfect party drink. Cheers!…
