Have you ever wondered how to heal a holiday burn? This is a simple DIY home remedy for those pesky kitchen burns. A cooling, soothing and all natural salve made from organic ingredients and essential oils.
I’m notorious for two things in the kitchen: burning myself and knife accidents.
I’m also known for making really good food, but if you ask my husband, he’ll definitely mention my inability to properly handle a knife and my frequent run ins with a hot stove top or oven.
While most of this could be prevented by staying out of the kitchen, away from the knife block and far, far away from the stove, I’m not quite ready to make that life change. Besides, then there wouldn’t be any new Meatless Monday recipes and what would we all eat?!
The only solution I have to my issues with using a knife properly is to have Matt deal with my avocados and to use a mandolin my dad bought me for veggies. Burns…those are another story.
Sometimes they happen when I forget that I’ve used the stove and put my Vitamix lid on a warm burner. Or when I reach into the oven for a forgotten pan. Or when I’m draining pasta noodles.
Thankfully, I have an abundance of fresh aloe for those situations and my secret weapon: Holiday Burn Salve.
A salve is an oil-based ointment that has a very simple base. I blend almond oil and jojoba oil with shea butter and beeswax. The oil is chilled slightly and combined with essential oils then cooled completely. You can use this method to create a salve for anything. If you up the beeswax to oil ratio, you’ll end up with a base for lip balm. It’s a very simple but effective preparation.
