This late afternoon post is uncharacteristic. But #newyearnewyou, so here we go…
This is our first free weekend after the craziness that is December and the holidays. And what did we decide to do?
Install bamboo flooring.
Yes. It’s the Gusmano family’s first official DIY for Casa G. I’m mostly excited and a tiny bit scared. We opted to install our new flooring ourselves to 1. save money and 2. feel the satisfaction that comes from doing something on your own. I’m hoping for satisfaction but let’s be real, there could be some disappointment too.
When we moved into our home at the end of 2013 we were frantically saving for a wedding so projects were minimal. Not to say there was a lot to do, our house was basically “move in ready.” After we got married I found myself with TONS of free time so I picked up a new hobby: HGTV. Months of watching HGTV has turned me into a Property Brothers wannabe and I’m on a mission to make my humble abode my dream home. Plus we had to get rid of our carpet because Matt has allergies.
So tonight, here are the five things I’ll be doing:
- Purchasing a miter saw
- Chowing down on dinner from Chipotle
- Installing the first planks of flooring in our guest room
- Listening to a soundtrack fit for home improvements
- Most importantly, maintaining grace because neither one of us is an expert and we’re learning together
Wish me luck! I’ll share updated photos of our guest rooms and bedroom next week [hopefully]. If you don’t see any pics, send well wishes and maybe someone from HGTV to fix my house.
What are your plans for the weekend? Has anyone else installed their own flooring?
