It’s no secret that Costco is where I usually spend
most part of my weekend. I love that they’re adding so many new organic items and foods that I would otherwise buy at my local Publix. I’ve found that shopping at Costco has made eating well more affordable, and I’ve been compiling a list of the things I love. You can find Part One, here.
1. Organic Baby Spinach:
Perfect for morning smoothies, salads and sautéed as a side dish. I love that you can get a giant sized container of spinach for the same price as the teeny tiny one at Publix.
2. Organic Eggs
Eggs are a bit tricky. Mostly because the labeling on the carton doesn’t really tell you that much about how the chickens were raised. Costco offers USDA Organic which means:
- Prohibits cages
- Prohibits use of antibiotics
- Requires access to outdoors
- Requires organic feed
- Allows beak cutting
- Allows forced molting
As you can see, it’s not all good. Check out this infographic on how to read the labels on egg cartons and to learn about why pasture raised eggs are the most humane.
3. Silk Almond Milk
A basic must-have for smoothie making. I use this daily and go through about 2 cartons per week. Costco sells Silk in a 3-pack which is perfect!
4. S.Pellegrino + 5. La Croix
Lately I’ve been obsessed with mineral water. Because hydration + minerals. It started over Christmas when I was in Michigan and I noticed my skin seemed clearer and healthier. My MIL informed me that her water has a high mineral content and since minerals are great for skin, I decided to incorporate it into my daily routine. Matt loves flavored water so we always stock up on La Croix, too.
FoodBabe recently posted something about Organic Lay’s Potato Chips at Costco, but unfortunately, I don’t think that’s really news worthy. I’m more about the organic coconut oil and organic sweet potatoes [I haven’t actually found organic sweet potatoes at Costco…yet].
What’s your favorite Costco buy? Are you into the Organic Lay’s they’re selling?
