Strawberry season is a big deal in Florida. We have a whole festival devoted to these sweet, juicy berries. I live close to a market where they sell fresh produce and local eggs/cheese, they get strawberries that are picked each morning and so far, they are the best that I’ve tasted. I stocked up last weekend when they had a sale – a whole flat for $10! I’ve been eating them, putting them in smoothies and finding new ways to enjoy them.
When I was a kid, strawberry milk was one of my favorite things. I found it more refreshing than chocolate milk, plus the pink color of the milk was an added bonus. My mom used to buy us Nesquik Strawberry Syrup, it was bright pink and so sweet! I bet you won’t be surprised when I tell you that Nesquik Strawberry Syrup doesn’t actually have strawberries in it. BUT it does have high fructose corn syrup, so there’s that.
My version of strawberry milk uses maple syrup from New Hampshire. My friend Christine always sends me a batch of syrup after she collects it from her family’s farm. It’s pretty amazing and the taste is out of this world! There is nothing that can be purchased in a store that compares to Christine’s syrup.
