As you might have heard, my husband and I are expecting our first baby at the end of September!
It’s really exciting but we’ve been navigating a lot of changes over the last few months with my new job and the news of expecting. I’ve been traveling a lot more which is an added stress when you’re pregnant and can’t lift a bag over your head.
It’s a lot. All at once.
One of my biggest struggles has been eating often enough and making sure I get the recommended amount of protein with each meal. My midwife wants me to aim for 60g of protein per day. With the travel involved in my new job, and the amount that I can comfortably eat at each meal, it’s been hard.
{fun fact: no matter how much you love food you won’t be able to eat as much as you want while pregnant. There isn’t enough space for food + baby}
The easiest thing has been adding in protein powder once or twice per day. This was I’m sure I’m getting 15 – 20g of protein per smoothie. Bob’s Red Mill recently launched a line of protein powders and Nutritional Boosters. The powders are sweetened with Monk Fruit (a low glycemic sweetener) and contain chia and probiotics. I love the added benefits of fiber (satiety) and probiotics (a happy tummy).
