This month everything about my BIRCHBOX was a pleasant surprise. First, the packaging is gorgeous. There is nothing nicer than a sweet message on a box full of goodies. Second, my samples were much better then expected.
When I got the email that my box shipped, I was eager to see what I was getting. BIRCHBOX always shows you what’s in your box before it arrives and based on what they showed me, I thought I was getting several foil packs, or single use samples. Honestly, those are just not very exciting. I like to have at least 3+ uses of a product so that I can make an informed decision about a product.
Luckily, my box turned out much better than expected! I still got 5 full samples and two foil packs. I can’t complain.
Davine’s LOVE Shampoo + Conditioner:
Every month BIRCHBOX gives you the opportunity to select your sample and this was my pick! I was super excited to see the shampoo was in a mini bottle because that means lots of uses. On first wash, I found the smell to be ok and the lather to be out of this world. So much lather. I didn’t really mind but it was definitely different for me. The conditioner left my hair so silky soft and shiny. This product is made in Italy (you know that I love EU beauty standards), and most of the ingredients seem to be botanical based. The company also places an emphasis on being sustainable, which is pretty cool.
English Laundry Perfume:
I’m pretty committed to my Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia, but this actually smells quite pretty. I’m going to tuck this sample into my purse for situations when I might need a little fragrance pick me up. This is a UK brand and I couldn’t find much information on it.
Malin + Goetz Grapefruit Cleanser and Vitamin E Face Moisturizer:
I didn’t know much about this brand before I got my sample but I did my homework. Malin + Goetz products are made apothecary style – that means the founders only want to use ingredients that you would have found in a real apothecary 100 years ago. I love that this is small company and that they are committed to clean ingredients. The cleanser and moisturizer were both great but I’m still super committed to my simple facial cleanser and moisturizer.
Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Sensitive:
I’m a fan of Juice Beauty so I was very excited to see this sample. I also love alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) as a beauty product because it helps with scarring and hyperpigmentation. I like to use AHA when I feel a break out coming on and the AHA in this product comes from organic fruit acids. It helps remove dead skin which helps my skin tremendously. One of the many reasons I love Juice Beauty? The products are formulated without parabens, petroleum, propylene or butylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfates, pesticides, phthalates, artificial dyes or synthetic fragrances; and, they never test on animals.
This is another UK based brand and while the website is cute and colorful, it doesn’t have any information on what their products are made of. The colors of this trio are pretty and fitting for fall, so I still plan on giving it a try.
I love that my box is starting to include more natural and/or eco-conscious brands. It has really opened by eyes to the products beyond what is found at the my local Whole Foods and as a former (current) beauty product addict, that is very exciting.
